As we were awoken from our blissful slumber by the pouncing of the Lady of Wigglesworth around 7am, Sean and I realized that this was the last night we would be staying in the SF Bay Area! The plan was to see our friend Nina and my sister Shannon for lunch in the mission, then hang out, take a nap, go to the Wharf and meet up with my best friend Christine for dinner and drinks. Sounds great, right?!
THIS IS NOT WHAT HAPPENED. HELL HAS NO FURRY LIKE A CITY'S SCORN.
THIS IS WHAT REALLT HAPPENED:
Wednesday we embarked from my fathers house in Campbell, Ca to Redwood City where Sean works at EA games. I stayed in the car with Lady while he went and worked for about 1 1/2. We had lunch with his teammates and then set off to the bank to cash in a few checks. When we landed at the bank we discovered that I had left my wallet at my Dads! (Charlie Brown: UGH!!!!!!!!) Well, you can imagine that we had to drive all the way back, get it and head straight up to SF to try and have 2nd lunch with my sister and a friend. Its about 12:30pm, we need to be in SF at 1pm. We call, we are going to be late.
Traffic wasn't that bad, driving was smooth for the most part UNTIL…..
SAN FRANCISCO 1st STRIKE!!!
As we are on our way, we run out of gas. Completely forgot with all the running around and got off the freeway only to find that
"The wind is yelling at me, saying not to go. But our destiny lies out on the open road. So...To the Emerald City to see what she has to offer. While along the way, we do 90encounter, the beauty of what life has in store, for the traveling gypsies souls."
Its been one of those 2 weeks where so much has happened that I am not sure what the days have been filled with.
It has been a whirlwind of chaos. Bouncing from one place to the other in the bay area for a week. A Place I have lived for 7 years and I went out just like I came in. Living in my car! On our way to Seattle, WA
Once we left our studio in the Mission area (cost $1450) Sean and I have been going between my families places.
First night of no home: my little sister Katie's apartment. Funny story: I am on the lease still for this apartment in Oakland ($1050 a month for a 2 bedroom. Which we all know is a steal!) I asked Katie and her boyfriend to move in so they could have their own place once I left. It was nice being able to be in a familiar place.
Then we were at my Dads in Campbell. We stayed in this spot for 3 days. At first, we tried sleeping inside. We loved the company, the hospitality but as soon as it came to sleeping, the problems started. A leather couch that was not big enough to hold either one of us was offered, and though it was a kind gesture, we couldn't stand how hot it was. Our Cat, Lady Wigglesworth, on the other hand, was ecstatic and loved being there! She is a female cat who LOVES male attention and at my dads there are 3 boys, my brothers Garett and Tommy, plus my Dad. So while Lady enjoyed being stationary for a few days Sean and I tried out our car bed. We discover that it was semi comfortable. It was still small but a great alternative to sleeping on a couch or paying $100 a night for a hotel. Personally, I love sleeping in the car!
The only problem we ran into was the night life of a cat. Once we put Lady in the car to see how we all would get along, we quickly realized what she does while we are asleep. Looking out the windows, stalking and playing. Sean and I woke up to Lady walking over our faces to try to get to the exposed back windows. The result, cat scratches on our bodies and faces! lol…. It has taken some time for all of us to get comfortable in our mobile home but we soon all got the hang of it!
There is so much more to our crazy experience that you can read about in Part 2 of Week 1's Crazy Adventure to The Emerald City Blog!
