SARAH PAULSONS DON'T SUCCEED SO EARLY
I think that as actors we get so bogged down by what we "should be" and "where we should be" going, what career model we "should be" striving for, etc. That we sometimes forget, that the idea of Success comes in many different forms.
I have been surrounded by friends and family who have had (universally what'd we call) Great Successes. Whether it be in Entertainment world or in other fields.
And it fills me with joy, while simultaneously frustrates me, and I question "why I am not there yet?" Or "Why does that level of success seems so far away. " The idea of the "Julia Roberts" or "Jennifer Lawrence" career, where you are suddenly everywhere and everyone wants you. I think to an extent, we either want this type of career or see as the top of the mountain. At least that is how it feels to me.
But as this article so elegantly puts it, this is not the only type of success achieved.
It can be years between good gigs for most and the life we have chosen, in this field, is one that tests patience, persistance and dedication to the craft of acting/storytelling.
I loved reading this article because it spoke to me on many levels, addressing success, the way the industry works for people. The fact that, Sarah Paulson's journey took her to places she never imagined and now, is seasoned enough to appreciate and play these complex characters, only speaks further to her dedication to craft she loves, and what slow success did, not only for her career, but for her as a person and as an actress.
If you are in a waiting game right now. I highly suggest reading this amazing article:
